This is Bob & John’s “La Hacienda”, which is Spanish. Google it. I don’t get paid for this. These tios were my favorite spot in the city throughout my young life, but its been a while since I’ve been back. At least 3-4yrs at this point. Anyhow, they slangin’em 2 / $5.11. For my Amigos out there, “Los venden 2 / $5.11”. Vamos.

Its been a while since I’ve seen some showstopping slices. Well, here we are. These look awesome. A ton of pepperoni and the cheese looks to be done perfectly. They’re not huge slices but you certainly wouldn’t feel robbed like if you were to visit, say, the Just Pizza slice cartel.

I really like Bob & John’s pepperoni. It’s one thing I distinctly remember about their pizza. They put a TON of it on. It’s thin and crispy, but not all the way through. Not to the point that it turns to dust in your mouth. About as good as it gets.

The Cheese was very very good, but not among the best. I’m mostly attributing that to the lack of elasticity, but the re-warming oven is a tricky mistress. Still, delicious and flavorful with good texture, but really could have used some stretch.

For sure Bob & John’s weakest element on their slices. I don’t recall this issue occurring on their full pies, but thats not what this little adventure is about now, is it? It dried out quite a bit. There were still nice little pockets of it, and the flavor was intense. Heavily spiced.

However, as you can see, clearly the slices were a little dry and could have used some more moisture. The sauce that was there, for the most part, kind of withered up 🙁

From Worst category to Best. Holy shit, this is particularly why I remember loving Bob & John’s so much. You could flick this dough and it would ring back that perfect hollow thud that you’re looking for in the best NY slices. But this has the fluffy thickness (not too thick) of a Buffalo style slice. A vey unique hybrid that tends to lean a bit more “Buffalo” than “NYC”, which is a first so far. There’s also just a bit of flour left on it, which I’ve always really enjoyed on pizza, but thats just me, baby. You do you.

These were excellent slices. Instantly recognizable for me. They brought me back to a simpler time, when pizza was a treat and not a weekly staple. But I’m a grown man and we all choose our own path. Let’s roll the tape.

Dough🥖: (A/A+) I guess the crust was a little dry…? Near perfection.
.
.
Cheese🧀: (B+) Hurt in the rewarming process, but thats pretty normal.
.
.
Sauce🥫: (C+/B-) Dried out. Needed about a teaspoon more/slice. Still flavorful.
.
.
Pepperoni🍖: (A) A touch more spice would bump these close to perfect.
.
.
Overall🍕: (B+/A-)

Still among my top, but having been my #1 going in, it’s actually been nice to look back after a half a year and see the places that have “dethroned” it, so to speak. I absolutely love Bob & John’s and always have. There is for sure an influential factor from flavors that are just so familiar to you. Thats an inevitable bias. Try them for yourself! Happy to see they held up so well in the grand scheme of things! Thanks for the slices guys.
