Just pizza is another big name in Buffalo pizza. As I’m sure everyone knows, for a place called “Just Pizza”, they do a hell of a lot more than that. Even weirder, Just Pizza seems to pride themselves more on their other features like wings and subs. Offering 75 varieties of pizza, 25 different wing sauces and claiming the “Best subs in Buffalo” (everybody says that shit) Just Pizza offers a unique neon-bathed atmosphere with an LED ordering screen and a clean cut look that sets itself apart from the mom & pop Italian-run joints. Nothing wrong with that, though. You do you, Just Pizza. Let’s have a look.

So when I walked in it was easy to tell, Just Pizza is set the fuck up for ordering slices. I mean, they have easily 10-15 pies spinning under the lights and are planning on moving volume. Most the people that were there when I got in were grabbing slices too. They also won Buffalo Spree’s 2013 “Best Slice” award. All of this lead up to the most disappointing unboxing of my little pizza adventure thus far. Shit was HEARTBREAKING. I just got out of the gym, super hungry, and these slices could fit in the palm of my hand. Especially considering Casa Di Pizza brought some bulk last week, these slices were tiny. I should have scaled them with a banana. The Buffalo Chicken slice was even smaller than the cheese and pepperoni! If you’re going to line price them, you’ve got to come correct and have them match. No slice deal either. $2.50 + tax a slice.

Admittedly, after the shock from opening the box, Just Pizza redeemed themselves. Their cheese had the best pull and maybe the best flavor so far. Really nice browning, rich and creamy consistency, and didn’t grease up terribly. For sure a highlight. Gotta admit, being so set up for slices probably gave them a leg up in this area. Their pepperoni, however, is the weakest of the places I’ve been. No texture, no flavor, no seasoning. It was just…there, really. Enough that even if I weren’t scrutinizing the pizza, I probably would have noticed the poor quality.

I really liked Just Pizza dough. Reminded me of Casa Di Pizza’s (similar NY/Buffalo hybrid thing going on), but it wasn’t AS good. Still, tender and chewable with a savory umami taste that good bread can give. No texture variance though. If you have been following along you might remember that I really value that in top quality dough. Just Pizza did navigate around the “cracker crust” problem with their slices, though. It’s gotta be the turnover they’ve got, but still an impressive feat. I was absolutely shocked by their sauce. Frankly, when I first opened the box I didn’t think I was going to get a “best” anything from Just Pizza…but they have the best sauce I’ve tried yet. Not only was it really well distributed, but it was delicious. Like, spoon out of the pizza and spread on your body delicious. Tangy as shit, with a little kick of sugar at the end. Also, NO dried out or sticky sections. Gotta hand it to them on that.

Dough🥖: (B+) Tender and savory with no “cracker”.
.
.
Cheese🧀: (A) Still warm from the oven but exceptional Whole Milk Mozz flavor and texture.
.
.
Sauce🥫: (A) Best yet. Tangy up front and sweet on the back.
.
.
Pepperoni🍖: (D+) Really added nothing to the slice.

Overall🍕:(B 84.75) I thought about penalizing Just Pizza for offering a shitty value, but decided not to because I couldn’t justify it affecting quality…so I’ll just say it: Just Pizza is a shitty value. You do get good pizza, but if you’re a grown man, don’t expect 2 slices to fill you up. Also, Just Pizza did not have a lot of visual appeal in general, but overcame that with a good quality slice that excels in its sauce and cheese (could partly be due to their slice-focused setup), and scrapes the bottom on pepperoni. I will also note, due to the fact that they balance out, that Just Pizza’s “Buffalo Chicken” pizza was the worst I’ve ever had. HOWEVER, I ordered an assorted sub to eat for lunch tomorrow, but had to emergency mow down half of it due to the tiny slices…and Just Pizza has one of the best assorteds I’ve ever had. PREACH! Thanks, Just Pizza!
