So Metro Pizza is in a weird little part of town in a weird little building. I knew nothing about it before the suggestions started rolling in, and apparently they have kind of a Bocce/Leonardi thing going on with a rich sauce and bready dough. As you might know, not my particular favorite style, but one I am absolutely open to and thoroughly enjoy. Hell I’ve even grown to appreciate it. Bocce scored pretty highly. Anyhow, the deal was 2+pop=$5 & some change. Let’s knock out the last one before I get sappy on you.

Ok, so these look great, but they aren’t as doughy or “Buffaloy” as I would have expected. They’ve definitely got the Cheese & Pep look right, but they just seem like nice versions of your standard slices.

The pepperoni are really good. Again, nothing you haven’t had before, but still quality shit. Each one has a nice little char ring, too. Well done (little pun happening there, eh…EH?)

The dough is light for my taste, but it wasn’t very thick so it didn’t feel undercooked or raw in the center as I’ve run across before. Pretty good, but nothing special.

This is the sideboob shot for you thickness scale. Try not to get too excited.

The cheese at Metro is really nice. I saw them prepping a pie when I got my slices, and they don’t use shred. They were using slabs of block mozzarella, which visually was really appealing. One of these two slices had some of the cheese blanket slip off, but the other is a pretty good example of an ideal situation. Both, admittedly could have used a little more, but a highlight of the review thus far.

Topping Metro’s cheese is their sauce. It’s got a very velvety mouth feel and is a little sweet with an acidic finish. They also ladled a formidable quantity on the pie, which is no secret that I am a sucker for. THIS is the parallel that I can see between Bocce/Leonardi’s/Imperial/Artone’s. Ok Buffalo. I’m tired. I’m weak. It’s time to put the horse out to pasture. Here we go.

Dough🥖: (B-) A little too light and squishy.
.
.
Cheese🧀: (A-) Delicious, but could use more, and slice #2 was missing a significant chunk.
.
.
Sauce🥫: (A-) Rich, silky, and finished tart. A tad sweet for me, but delicious.
.
.
Pepperoni🍖: (B+/A-) A prime example of a nicely done staple, but could really use more.

Overall🍕: (B+)

Overall, metro pizza is on the better side of “solid”. Really consistent flavor and texture, but it hit an in-between that I didn’t find special. Didn’t have the thick hearty buffalo thing going on, but was a little too close to it to hit that sweet half & half style that I like (see Bob & Johns). You gotta be hot or cold, baby. Still very good stuff. Thanks, Metro.

Year One in the books! It’s been real. It’s been weird. But it’s mostly just been real weird. Thanks again!
